Luise is a German variant of Dutch, English and French Louise, all feminine forms of Louis, the French form of the Old Frankish male given name Chlodowig (Modern German: Ludwig) and one of two English forms, the other being Lewis. The Frankish name is composed of the words for "fame, loud" (hlōd) and "fighter,warrior" (wīg) which may be translated as "famous warrior" or "famous in battle".
