It was an age when the taking of life was a common occurrence, when one would boast about the number they had slain in combat. Yet despite this, the city in which Saya dwelled was spared violence, existing as a tranquil haven in a turbulent world. Even those unlike herself recognized her, and would not seek to ruin the peace she brought. As long as she remained, harmony would prevail. Saya is a Japanese female given name, which refers to a scabbard or sheath for a sword. Beyond being a simple noun, Saya connotes peace because of the image of a sword that remains in its scabbard. Its meaning varies on the kanji used – among others: "blossom".
