Upon Dietlinde's command, an army of souls can be unleashed from within the crystal skull, enough to engulf the land in their ghastly glow. The skull's properties and the soul's familial bonds allowed them to increase in strength far beyond those who remained upon the mortal coil. Dietlinde had provided them a domicile, and they would fight against the gods themselves to defend her.

Dietlinde is a German feminine name, Dietlind is a variant form. From the Old Germanic name Theudelinda, derived from the Old High German elements theud "people" and linde "soft, tender". Theudelinda was a 6th-century queen of the Lombards.
