However, after seeing his comrades fall right before his eyes, his conviction is firm. He lives for battle. That is all he needs, and that is all his opponents see before their fall.

Gereon is a German masculine name, possibly derived from Old Greek word geron meaning "old man". This was the name of a martyr saint Gereon in the early 4th century in Cologne.
