For as Marissa heard the screams and smelled the charred flesh of her enemies, the joy welling in her heart nearly brought her to tears.

Mariassa is a variant of an Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and English feminine name Marisa, a combination ofMaria (Hebrew Miryam "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness" or "wished for child") and Spanish and Italian Luisa(feminine form of Luis, derived from Germanic elements hlud "fame, loud" and wig "fighter, warrior"). Or else could be a variant of Greek and English Maris "of the sea", taken from the Latin title of the Virgin Mary, Stella Maris, meaning "star of the sea".
