By disguising herself as a defenseless maiden, Lew tempts the evil beings into range. Then, her lance Brionac releases shards of light that pierce the fel beasts' hide. Yet Brionac is but one of many weapons she has mastered. Regardless of their form, no denizen of shade can best her.

Brionac is believed to be the name of Lugh's magic spear in Irish mythology. The spear was supposedly alive and thirsted for blood; whoever had it in battle would definitely win. It is a popular name for unique spears in Japanese video games. Lugh or Lug (modern Irish: Lú) is an Irish deity of light represented in mythological texts as a hero and High King of the distant past. He is a reflex of the pan-Celtic god Lugus, and his Welsh counterpart is Lleu Llaw Gyffes, "The Bright One with the Strong Hand". Also he is a father of Cú Chulainn, an Irish mythological hero.
Lew is a Polish masculine name of Latin origin, a cognate of Czech and Russian Lev; means "lion, like a lion; brave". A vernacular form of Leo. English, Czech, French, German, Greek, Polish, Italian, and Spanish Leon is also a cognate, but derived from Greek leon.
