After snatching the lamp from Aladdin, Magnus summoned the genie and made a wish. "I want great power. The power to defeat anyone..." He acquired strength comparable to that of the genie and began to call himself a god and suppress the people. He lost interest in the genie and the lamp, and focused instead on enslaving huge numbers of people and forcing his will upon them. His tyranny seemed to know no bounds.

Magnus is a masculine name used chiefly in English, German, and Scandinavian, and its origin is Latin. It is literally from the word magnus with the meaning "great". It became popular in Scandinavia after the time of the 11th-century Norwegian king Magnus I, who was said to have been named after Charlemagne ("Charles the Great" in Fench), or Carolus Magnus in Latin. The name was borne by six subsequent kings of Norway as well as three kings of Sweden. It was imported to Scotland and Ireland during the Middle Ages.
