Christopher the Explorer

Lore[]

How many moons had it been since he'd left his hometown? Christopher drew away from his telescope and breathed a sigh. He had set off to discover an uncharted continent, but his patience was rapidly wearing thin. "What if the continent doesn't even exist?" he wondered, returning to his telescope as if determined to prove himself wrong. Suddenly, he cried out in joy. Land was sight.

Name origin[]

Christopher is a masculine name of old Greek origin, and the meaning of Christopher is "bearing Christ". Derived from the Greek name Χριστόφορος (Christóforos); the constituent parts are Χριστός (Christós), "Christ", and φέρειν (férein), "bear". The name was popular among medieval Christians as a metaphorical expression of bearing Christ in their hearts, and later on, in tribute to the 3rd-century Saint Christopher, patron saint of travellers. According to the legend, he was a giant who made his living carrying people across a river, one day he safely carried the infant Christ.
