Black wings on an angel normally signified treachery agaist the gods. However, in Hendrik's case, they simply reflected his disposition. He showed an aversion to the high-minded lifestyle required of angelhood and grew to detest the stiff formalities. He cast aside everything and chose to follow his own devilish ambitions, wild and free.
