Though his subjects recognized Heathcote as their ruler, he was unable to expel the feeling of inferiority that plagued him. King Milton, ruler of a neighboring kingdom and his close friend, was an exceptional leader to whom Heathcote always felt one step behind. In order to assuage his anxiety, he decided to mobilize his army and march upon Milton's territory. If he was ever to fell pride in himself, he had to claim victory over his old friend just once, regardless of what anyone else thought of him.
