Ansalize and the black lion lived where no else dared to tread, at least not if it could be helped. They not only survived in those dangerous mountains, they occupied the top of the food chain. Since Ansalize was but a girl, she and the lion were inseparable; in many ways it raised her as its cub. None would have known that she had been abandoned, as she contained within her a ferocity that was uncommon even among creature of the wild.
