Hoping to save his sister from the grip of depth, Theodosius prostrated himself before the reaper. "Please, I beg you not to take her," he said, "Spare her soul, and, in return, I will give you my strength." The hand of darkness accepted his request: As long as Theodosius was alive, he would be a vessel through which the reaper could carry out its undertakings. In exchange for the souls of the wicked, Theodosius' sister could keep her own. It was the compassion he felt for his sibling that allowed him to bear taking the lives of others.
