The sound of her hooves echo throughout the forest. Shod in beautiful bronze horseshoes, Ceryneia canters up the rocky terrain, bucking her head and rubbing her horns on the nearby branches. With winter nearly at an end, she seeks to rid her horns of their protective insulating layer and prepare for the warmth of spring. She sighes in relief when they're polished to their dazzlingly natural golden shine.
In Greek mythology, the Ceryneian Hind (Greek: ἡ Κερυνῖτις ἔλαφος), also called Cerynitis or the Golden Hind, was an enormous hind (deer), who lived in Keryneia, Greece. It was sacred to Artemis, the chaste goddess of the hunt, animals and unmarried women. It had golden antlers like a stag and hooves of bronze or brass, and it was said that it could outrun an arrow in flight. The capture of the hind was one of the labours of Heracles (Hercules).
