Fantine lead a life of despair. She once had a loving daughter and family, but after her husband left the two of them flat, her life took a wretched turn for the worse. Fantine gave her daughter Cosette to the care of the Thénardier family and left to work in a factory. Once she was fired from that grueling workplace, she was forced to sell her body on the street. Only thoughts of her beloved daughter kept her going.
