He did not possess even a modicum of his patriarch's capabilities and had been disowned as a result. The few retainers who accompanied him beyond the borders also soon abandoned their roles, leaving Galnoa to fend for himself.

Misbegotten is a child or children born to unmarried parents; bastard. In royal families Kings often had children not from their wifes, but on the side: with servants, peasants, etc. They considered bastsrds and had no royal rights.
