Misha was famished. It was only on rare occasions that prey would stumble into her web-adorned domain, and most of her time was spent in idle anticipation for her next meal. Since her birth, such was her daily routine, and she began to question how much longer she could tolerate it.

Misha a diminutive of the Russian name Mikhail (Михаил). A hypocoristic of English, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, Czech Michael, its English-language equivalent would be Mike. Non-Russian usages sometimes have it as a female name, and sometimes as Mischa. Derived from the Hebrew name Mikha'el meaning "who is like God?" with elements mí "who [is]", ka- "like" and él "God".
