From atop his fearsome mount, Pharnaces ordered his elite forces on the battlefield. Lauded as the bravest of Xerxes' soldiers, there had never been a more talented commander of beasts. He was the army's crowning glory. Those enemies unfortunate enough to come across his troops were given two choices: surrender or perish.
Pharnaces II of Pontus, also known as Pharnaces II (Greek: Φαρνάκης; about 97–47 BC) was a prince, then King of Pontus and the Bosporan until his death.
