The rumor that Rui Xi was born of a tiger was lent credence by her ferocious eyes, lithe body, and striped tail; the fact she had bested countless soldiers and beasts made it all the more plausible. As the lovely ruler of the bamboo forest, she had no shortage of admirers and her supposed lineage meant she commanded reverence equal to that of a god.

Xi (ɕi) is the Pinyin romanization of several different Chinese family names: different speling has different meaning including "crack, opening", "joy, gladness, delight" or "practice".
