His task: to be the iron wall through which none shall pass. He protects the flaming gate and, as long as he lives, none will see what lies beyond.
In Norse mythology, Surtr or Surt (Old Norse for "black" or "the swarthy one") is an elder jötunn. Surtr is foretold as being a major figure during the events of Ragnarök; carrying his bright sword, he will go to battle against the Æsir, where he will do battle with the major god Freyr, and afterward the flames that he brings forth will engulf the Earth.
In a poem from the Poetic Edda, Surtr is described as having a female companion, Sinmara. In a book from the Prose Edda additional information is given about Surtr, including that he is stationed guarding the frontier of the fiery realm Múspell, that he will lead "Múspell's sons" to Ragnarök, and that he will defeat Freyr. Surtr has been the subject of place names and artistic depictions, and scholarly theories have been proposed about elements of Surtr's descriptions and his potential origins.
Renewed Version: (Fiery Gates) Surtr Inflamed
On the Planet of Neotellus there are many types of Cryptids in many types of places.
The Surtr is the guardian of the Gates of Flame.
However, the gates he protects are not the gates to Hades; they are gates leading to an unexplored territory within Neotellus.
Even though the mysterious land behind the gates was the birthplace of Surtr, he has no recollection of it. Because Surtr’s power far exceeds any other mortal, many suspect that he might be a god amongst men.
As far as what lies in the land beyond the gate or if it is full of others as strong as Surtr, that will remain unknown as long as he faithfully guards his post.
