Yurlungur, the spirit of steel, was mired in grievous emotion. The metal was an important resource in creating indispensable tools, yet it was also crafted into weapons of war which coated the land in blood. The gore-stained steel arms pleaded for her to free them from the disgrace, yet she could not. She had created steel, but it was humans who decided its use, be it for voilent ends or no.

In Australian Aboriginal mythology, the Yurlungur is a great copper python of the Murngin that is said to bring the rains and thus incite the renewal of life; "the great father", ancestral snake spirit. It is commonly known as the "rainbow serpent" because the water where it lives shines like a rainbow. It was believed that if colored light was seen inside a well (likely caused by light reflection) then the Yurlungur was within. In one story of the Yurlungur, he was awoken from a deep sleep by the smell of one of the Wawalag sisters' blood. Aroused by the smell of the blood, Yurlungur swallowed them whole, however it was later forced to regurgitate them both.
